Standard (fixed) bounty tournaments
In a standard bounty tournament (often called a knockout or "KO"), each player carries a fixed bounty. Whoever eliminates them collects the whole bounty, and it never grows.
How it works
A fixed part of each buy-in funds the bounty. The rest builds the regular prize pool. Because bounties don't grow, every elimination is worth the same amount from the first hand to the last.
A 5.50 Chip bounty event puts 2.50 of each buy-in on the player's head. Eliminate three players and you collect 3 × 2.50 = 7.50 in bounties, plus whatever you win from the prize pool.
Strategy tips
- Each bounty is worth the same at any stage, so early knockouts matter more here than in PKOs.
- Compare the bounty with the pot. A fixed bounty can justify a call with a slightly weaker hand.
- Avoid going broke chasing bounties. Survival still drives the prize-pool payouts.
- Short stacks become attractive targets; expect calls when you shove.
- Know the bounty amount before you sit down. It changes your calling ranges.
Common mistakes
- Treating fixed bounties like growing PKO bounties
- Overcalling with weak hands just to collect a bounty
🔎 Know who you're up against
Fixed bounties reward knocking out anyone, so the softest opponents at your table are worth isolating. Knowing who the regulars are tells you whose all-ins to fold and whose to call for the bounty.
